I know I had a very difficult time when I was a freshman and I ended up doing something that I am regretting. You hit the nail on the head in a few places. "Avoid credit cards." That's a sad truth. Sometimes it's just too easy to join the guys at the bar even if you are strapped for cash, but have the card handy. If all you have is the green in your wallet then you might make better decisions. "Compare schools." That was really difficult for me. The schools I thought I wanted to go to ended up really turning me off after I investigated further. But the school that I ultimately always wanted to attend I have to 'just say no' to because it's too damn expensive. Great post Julie.
